Glendon School annual cake and dish auction raises $2,800

Glendon School held its annual Leadership Cake and Dish Auction on April 25 with an interesting beach theme.

GLENDON – Glendon School held its annual Leadership Cake and Dish Auction on April 25 with an interesting beach theme.

Every year, Glendon School’s Junior/Senior High Leadership Team holds a Cake and Dish Auction to raise money for various initiatives and local charities.

The leadership team, under the guidance of Annette Dillon, a teacher at Glendon School, hosts a myriad of activities throughout the year, including a Halloween-themed food drive every October to donate to the Knights of Columbus’ Christmas hampers program.

Dillon says this year is the third year the leadership team is partnering with Bonnyville’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for the auction.

“Once a week, I [also] take four kids from the leadership team... to the SPCA. We volunteer for an hour and a half, [and] the kids love it,” says Dillon.

About 30 cakes and dishes were auctioned off, raising around $2,800. Last year, the auction raised over $1,800.

Proceeds will go to the SPCA, Glendon’s new public library, and the rest to Glendon School to help fund activities.

Dillon thanked all those who have been part of the auction.

“I am absolutely ecstatic about how the Glendon community comes together to help support Glendon school and the leadership team,” says Dillon. “We can always count on them to donate.”

In addition to the leadership team baking up items, many of the dishes and cakes that were auctioned off were donated by members of the community, adds Dillon.

“So, big thanks to everybody.”
