RCMP investigating homicide in Banff after fight at a bar on its main street

BANFF, Alta. — Mounties say they are investigating a homicide in a well-known tourist town in Banff National Park.

RCMP say in a news release that Banff officers were alerted to a fight around 2:30 a.m. Friday at a bar on Banff Avenue, a busy pedestrian area in the mountain town.

A 26-year-old man from Banff, Alta., was found injured and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say officers took a 22-year-old man, also from Banff, into custody from the same location.

The Alberta RCMP major crimes unit has taken over the investigation with help from Banff RCMP and the forensic identification unit.
