KANANASKIS COUNTRY – An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Drumheller was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 40 in Kananaskis Country on Sunday (Oct. 8).

Police said they responded to the emergency at about 2 p.m. roughly 2.5 kilometres west of Mist Creek day use area near the Highwood Pass.

“Unfortunately, despite the efforts of emergency crews, the lone occupant of that motorcycle was deceased,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, media relations officer for RCMP.

RCMP and Kananaskis Emergency Services responded, while STARS air ambulance was called in but stood down.

“This person was together with a group and for an unknown reason, lost control and crashed. No indication as of yet if there was any offences being committed,” said Cpl. Savinkoff.

An investigation is continuing into the incident.

The Outlook will update the story as more information becomes available.
