A local resident is out over $50,000 after becoming the victim of a substantial fraud.

"The scam was a well known 'lottery' scam, where the suspects tell the victim that they have won a large sum of money and that there is a transaction fee that needs to be paid prior to the release of a much larger sum," explained Hillier in the release.

This scam has been successful more than once in the local area. RCMP are urging residents to guard their personal finances and information.

"These scams often are based out of country, making them very difficult to trace and investigate."
