BONNYVILLE - The MD of Bonnyville reminding residents and tourists using beach and day-use areas that they still need to social distance.
“After a week of hot weather, we’ve experienced some overcrowding and unsafe vehicle usage and parking in our campgrounds, especially near beach and day use areas,” said parks manager Rodney Guilbault in a release.
With the particularly hot weather lately, and the August long weekend, the press release from the MD said that while they "understand the urge to claim a piece of sand or grass at the beaches and day use areas at MD-owned/operated campgrounds," it's important to be safe, use caution, and keep social distancing in mind.
MD Peace Officers will be patrolling the municipality's campgrounds to make sure the beach and day-use areas aren't overcrowded, and that vehicles aren't blocking intersections or emergency vehicle routes.
“In the event the beach and day use areas become full, have a backup activity planned,” Guilbault advised. “These regulations are for the safety of our campers, residents, and visitors. Unfortunately, if the public cannot comply with the rules, future restrictions for the beaches and day use areas at MD campgrounds may be introduced.”
In addition to staying six feet apart from people outside your household or cohort family, the municipality also encouraged everyone using their recreation areas to bring masks, and hand sanitizer and/or disinfectant wipes with them.
