Eight churches combine in Cantata

Seniors Olga Seniuk, Lawrence Pidluzny and Mary Bezpalko sang two traditional Ukrainian carols at the Inter-Denominational Cantata.

Eight churches from Elk Point and surrounding areas, including Derwent, Vermilion and Myrnam, were represented at the Dec. 8 Inter-Denominational Cantata hosted by St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Elk Point.

This is an annual event, with singers and musicians from participating churches attending weekly practices leading up to the event. Scripture readings, this year by older children in the community, musical solos and a children’s choir number are part of the program.

As in previous years, both Ukrainian and Filipino carols are performed along with those in English, and the traditional finale is ‘Silent Night’ sung in five languages.
