Lac La Biche County peace officers are monitoring area school zones as students go back to class this week.
Community Peace Officer and Law Enforcement Training Instructor Ashley Blanchard was with the municipality's Enforcement Services manager Chris Clark on Tuesday afternoon, keeping their eyes on Main Street Lac La Biche traffic near the Light of Christ Catholic School.
Clark and Blanchard did issue warnings to some motorists in the school zone, and say they hope drivers recognize the importance of the 30kph limits around the region's schools.
While officers are expected to use the coming weeks primarily to educate and remind drivers about return-to-school traffic rules, they will be issuing tickets for school zone speeders, along with infractions around school buses and pedestrians.
More students to start
School started across the Lakeland region today — Tuesday, September 1, but several schools opted for a two-day staggered start, with the second half of students heading to classrooms on Wednesday. Clark said the two-day start means that only half of the kids were heading to and from schools on Tuesday. Motorists need to prepare for more school traffic on Wednesday, he said, and then full schools by Thursday.
School zone speed limits are in effect in the Lac La Biche and Plamondon areas between 8 and 9:30 am, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm and 3 and 4:30 pm
