LAC LA BICHE - On Jan. 12, the U13AA Lakeland Panthers dropped a 2-1 decision to the visiting the Edmonton Ice Blue at the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche.

The meeting between the two Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) teams got underway at 6:20 p.m.

Blue Ice player Lorelai Lee, who was assisted by teammate Diem Letourneau, scored the opening goal of the game. The Ice Blue went into second period with a 1-0 lead over the Panthers. Both teams remained off the scoreboard until third period, when Edmonton’s Kayci Arnold, unassisted, scored her team’s second goal of the night.

But the panthers were determined not to go home scoreless, and at 10 minutes and 30 seconds into the third period, Jane Scansen secured an unassisted goal.  The Saturday night game was delayed midway through the contest due to a play that saw one of the young skaters suffer a broken ankle.

The Panthers currently hold eighth spot in their nine-team Alberta Female Hockey League North Division, one spot behind the seventh-place Edmonton Ice.

The team will be in Bonnyville on Sat., Jan. 27 to face the Camrose Wildcats.
