One of the many musical performances gracing the McArthur Park Rotary Club gazebo stage during the annual Summer Days festivities running from July 29-31 in Lac La Biche County is Dirt Road Angels.
The Alberta-based female group will be part of the 60-year anniversary of the pinnacle summer celebration.
Dirt Road Angels will be performing for the first time on July 30 from 8 p.m to 11 p.m. The 'Angels’, along with a handful of musicians at their side, will not only be playing popular country and rock covers but also original songs from almost a decade of performing, said Danita Lynn, one of the four lead singers.
“We’ve got a good show planned for everybody. We try to mix it up with a few older country tunes but mostly country rock,” she says, giving examples of Seven Bridges Road by the Eagles and Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny cash. “There is some familiar songs we’ll be performing as well as cover tunes and of course our own originals.”
The group will be performing a three-hour set, she added. Included in the setlist will be the group’s popular originals like Extra Dirty and Dance in the Rain during the weekend performance for the dynamic group that hopes to get the crowd on their feet, said Lynn.
“We are starting at 8 p.m, and going until 11p.m. We are a very high-energy group and we have a unique harmony…we’ve been together for nine years now and this is our third album. We’ve had some really good success,” said Lynn.
Originally from Plamondon, Lynn is very familiar with the area, and is looking forward to seeing familiar and new faces at their first appearance on the Summer Days stage. It won’t be the first time for Dirt Road Angels visiting the community, however, as the band has had recent sets in Plamondon — where they also were mainstays during during the annual Plamondon ‘Mudbogs’ where the group also filmed their music video for Extra Dirty.
“We are very excited to come out and perform. This will be the first time the entire group performs at the Summer Days event, said Lynn.
With a band lineup from regions across the province, each member gets to feel at home during their busy touring schedule. Lynn is looking forward to her weekend.
“It’s always nice to come back to the hometowns,” she said.
