It's the start of a new sport-cycle in schools across the Lakeland, with volleyball action recently wrapping up across the region, the basketball courts are seeing action in recent days.

Last Tuesday, the J.A. Williams High School (JAWS) JV Sharks hosted the Assumption High School Crusaders from Cold Lake in an exhibition game to warm-up for the coming season.

The senior high school teams from the two schools also tipped-off that afternoon for an exhibition tilt.

The exhibition games are "a bit of a tune-up", and more about getting rid of the rust, learning the fundamentals and working on team-play, says JAWS Athletics Director Andrew Pryzyblski, explaining that the scores of the games weren't recorded.

Two high school basketball tournaments — the first of the regular season  took place over the weekend, with the senior teams competing atBonnyville Centralized High School. A JV tournament drawing teams from schools across the Lakeland was hosted by JAWS at the Bold Center.
