LAC LA BICHE - Schools across the Lakeland showed a wave of green last Wednesday in support of St. Patrick's Day. Shamrocks, leprechaun-gear and the luck of the Irish was on full display to celebrate the Irish patron saint. Students across the region went green to recognize the day.
In some schools, the younger grades were busy in the days leading up to St. Patrick's expected arrival by building leprechaun traps in the hopes of catching a mischievous elf and hopefully sharing in his mythical wealth of gold.
At Lac La Biche's Light of Christ Catholic School, principal Carmen Semeniuk said that while several classes created detailed traps to trick and capture little leprechauns, many students were working to keep the little green-suited spirits free from capture.
"Our Grade 2/3 French Immersion class built Leprechaun games — as they didn't want to catch him, but wanted him to have a place to go so that he wouldn't get caught in the traps in the other classes," said Semeniuk with a smile. "They made him presents and wrote him letters of appreciation to make him feel loved on this day."
