Kinettes Club of Lac La Biche to hold 1st annual Cookie Walk

If you are finding it difficult to get a head start on your Christmas baking this year, never fear; the Kinette Club of Lac La Biche have you covered. December 4 will mark their first annual Cookie Walk, with proceeds going to Santa’s Helpers.

All you need to is come down to the Kinsmen Hall from noon to 4 p.m. that day and purchase an empty container. Why buy an empty box, you might ask? To fill it with fresh-baked goodies, of course.

“Basically, we have two sizes of containers – a seven litre for $25 and a 5.75 litre for $20,” said Kinettes President Michele Norton. “People can come in and buy their container, then proceed to the main hall where we will have tables and tables of goodies.”

The aim of the game is to fill your container as full as you can, said Norton. The 20 members of the Lac La Biche Kinette Club will provide all the goodies, including a variety of Christmas cookies and squares. All the recipes will be nut-free.

Norton got the idea while browsing the district Kinettes’ website looking for ideas for a fundraiser. Other clubs have done a cookie walk in the past, and as the Christmas season approaches, Norton thought it would be a great way to give the community one less thing to do at this busy time.

“Not everyone has time to do Christmas baking. I haven’t done it (Christmas baking) in years, and when I recently started, I thought ‘hey, I miss this!’ It’s a great way for people to get a variety of baking too.”

Net proceeds from the event will go to Santa’s Helpers. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available while you wait.
