Lac La Biche man killed; area man charged with murder

Lac La Biche RCMP and the Major Crimes Unit have charged Ryan Lavallee, 31, in connection to the death of Joshua Lavallee, 27.

A Lac La Biche man is dead and another is facing second degree murder charges after police responded to reports of an assault in a wooded area between 94 Avenue and 99 Avenue in Lac La Biche on Thursday afternoon.

Information released by police Friday night says local RCMP members arrived at the scene at approximately 3:20 pm, finding one man dead from an apparent assault with a weapon.

RCMP arrested Ryan Lavallee, 31, at the scene, and have charged him with second degree murder in connection to the death of 27 year old Joshua Lavallee.

Police officials told LakelandToday.ca on Friday night that the two men "are known to each other," but despite the same last name, the two are not immediately related.

Officials also told LakelandToday.ca that no other suspects are being sought in connection to the death. Information on the type of weapon involved in the incident was not released by police on Friday.

RCMP media relations Corporal Teri-Ann Bakker says that as the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released.

The accused has been remanded into custody, and is set to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on Aug. 17.
