Lac La Biche woman charged with second degree murder

LAC LA BICHE — Leduc RCMP have laid second degree murder charges against a Lac La Biche woman after an aggravated assault resulted in the death of a 44-year-old male on Aug. 15. 

Tyra Philips, 33, was arrested at the scene after RCMP, Fire and EMS crews responded to a report of serious assault on Sparrow Drive near Airport Road in Leduc at about 3 p.m. on Sunday.  

The victim, Patrick Ford of Port Alberni, BC., died as a result of injuries sustained during the assault.  

Philips will face charges of second-degree murder in Leduc Provincial Court, where she is required to appear on Aug. 19. The 33-year-old was released following a judicial interim hearing until her court date.  

RCMP will not be providing any further updates on the matter as it is now before the Leduc Court.
