Road to Hope receives a cheque from hardworking JAWS students

Lac La Biche's J.A. Williams High School students Hailey Shukaliak and Payton Sehn were all smiles as they were holding the $911.80 cheque given to representatives of the regional Road to Hope transportation organization last Friday.

The cheque was given to the Athabasca and Lac La Biche-housed charity from the Interact Club and the Workplace Readiness Class at J.A. Williams High School. The Interact Club is a school group working alongside the local Rotary Club tht aims to instill the idea of service above self in youth. The Workplace Readiness class teaches students valuable job skills like how to show up on time and how to work under pressure.

The Interact Club and the Workplace Readiness class came together to successfully raise $300 more than their donation last year to Road to Hope.

The Road to Hope organization is a non-profit that helps cancer patients get to and from their appointments that are outside of the community. Alice Thompson, is the Road to Hope Treasurer, and she was at the school accepting the cheque.

“I just think it’s amazing how giving these students are,” says Thompson. “We are so lucky to have our youth be so involved in the community and so willing to help out.”

The Interact Club and the Workplace Readiness class donate their time, efforts and fundraising to several agencies and organizations around the community. They worked alongside Peace Officers and RCMP to help fill the three and a half police vehicles with food donations that were given to the Lac La Biche Food Bank right before Christmas.
