The season for the Lac La Biche Curling Club got underway with a ‘Friday Fun Night’ on Oct. 20. The social event was geared towards adults who are interested in curling and wanted to try out the popular winter sport.

Throughout the evening, both newbies and regular members of the club engaged in some enjoyable play on the ice. Those who attended the fun night out were also treated to snacks and music inside the club lounge at the Bold Centre. The Friday Fun Nights are held once a month during the curling season.

In an attempt to keep the fun sliding along, the club held a learn to curl workshop from 1-3 p.m. the following afternoon. The October 21 session was free, and was aimed primarily at families.

Throughout the season — which lasts into April  — much of the weekly curling league action  takes place on Monday and Thursday nights, with a men’s league and the club’s open league, consisting of mixed and ladies’ teams.

The club will also be hosting junior curling on Tuesdays after school from November to February for children and youth aged seven and older.

There are also several bonspiels hosted by the club from December to April, including the December Funspiel, the Men’s Bonspiel in January, the Ladies Bonspiel in March, and the April Mixed Bonspiel that closes out the season.
