Lac La Biche and area teens were making a splash last week at the Portage Pool, thanks to the Teen Chill Zone program.
Held most Fridays, the Teen Chill Zone is a program hosted by the Lac La Biche County's FCSS program to provide activities for teens. Most of the events are planned out by the teens themselves. The most recent event saw a dozen teens enjoying the waves and warmth of Lac La Biche's Portage Pool. With the creative plans of some young volunteers, several unique additions to the pool party were added, included spooky blue lighting and the chance to glam for underwater photos.
Organizers and supervisors from the Family and Community Support Services department say the regular Chill Zones give teens a chance to hang out in a safe and supervised environment with their peers.
The next Teen Chill Zone is this Friday. The event is a 80s themed who-dunnit with the teenagers as the characters in the fun murder-mystery. The event runs from 4-8 at the Lac La Biche Heritage Centre and is open for teens between the ages of 13 and 17.
Over the weekend, a Teen Skill Zone event — part of an ongoing series of workshops for teens hosted by FCSS — featured a public speaking workshop.
