Brothers tear up rodeo mile

Runners of all ages took part in the Rodeo Mile race before the annual parade in St. Paul, Sept. 1.

Another rodeo weekend has come to a close, and so has another Rodeo Mile race.

The Rodeo Mile went off without a hitch on Sept. 1, prior to the annual parade, as 72 racers took to the 1.6 km stretch on main street.

The overall winner of this year's race was Kirk Sundt, with a time of 4:58. His brother, Zachary, finished second with 5:38.

A local legend was also on hand, participating in his first Rodeo Mile since returning to running after injuries. Ian Manyfingers, who set the course record back in 2006 with a time of 4:31, laced up for the race. Manyfingers has won the race five times. He finished this year with a time of 6:09.

"We were pleased that Mr. Manyfingers was able to return to the run after years of absence due to injury. We had him on the platform handing out prizes and medals,” NEAT coach and race organizer Doug Zarowny said.

The top females for this year were Layla McCaffery  (6:18) in the Bantam category, and Mienna Starosielski (6:51) in the Junior.

There was also a quarter mile race for younger children, to which Zarowny said he saw "A lot of happy faces when they finished and got their ribbons."
