Cubs slam the competition at home

The second annual Realtors Cup senior ball tournament was held in St. Paul this past weekend, and it would be the home team – the St. Paul Cubs – that would dominate the tournament and take first place in the ‘A’ final.

First, the Cubs would take on Goodfish Lake on Friday night, a team the Cubs had met earlier in the season and had mixed results against. This time, both teams would again be competitive but St. Paul would win the game with a score of 7-5.

Next up for St. Paul would be the semifinals against Innisfail. In this game, St. Paul would dominate the plate and win by a score of 15-0. That would lead the Cubs to the team’s final game of the tournament, where the team would face the Edmonton Athletics. The final game wouldn’t be a close one either, as the Cubs would win with a score of 12-1, and the team would finish in first place.

“The guys played probably the best I’ve seen them play,” said team manager and player Corey deMoissac. “That makes it a little easier.”

On the ‘B’ side, it would be Rosetown, Sask., and Armena, Alta., meeting up in the finals in what would be a close game. After all was said and done, Rosetown would win the game with a final score of 6-5.

A full payout of the entry fees was awarded to teams throughout the tournament, explains deMoissac. He adds that he already plans on doing the whole thing again next season.

Winning the home tournament is certainly a nice way to finish off the 2010 season, says deMoissac.
