The Aurora Middle School girls finished in top spot of the Lakeland Schools Athletic Association basketball district championships held on the Bold Center courts on Saturday. On the boys side, the Assumption Junior High School team came away with top honours after a day on the courts.

Boys and girls teams from Cold Lake, Bonnyville, Plamondon, Iron River and Lac La Biche were taking part in the event.

The games began at 9 in the morning with the finals for both boys and girls divisions going at 5:45 pm.

Fans welcome

With pandemic measures lifted at the Bold Center and with school-based athletics, spectators were allowed in and around the two playing courts. The cheers from the stands helped to make the event a good one for all the student athletes, said the event coordinator and Aurora's out-going athletic director Wayne Mah.

"Everything went smoothly," he said. "There were a lot of smiling faces."

There was no word on further tournaments for the District winners by our editorial deadline.
