Winners from Wards determines Bonnyville teams competing in District Championships

Dr. Brosseau’s girls team finished LSAA's Central Ward tournament on Nov. 17, with a first-place Central Ward plaque. The Bobcats will compete at District Championships along with second-place team, the École des Beaux-Lacs Attaque.
The Iron River Dragon's coed team competing in the boys' category earned first place in Central Wards. The Dragon's will head to District Championships on Nov. 26, along with the second-place boys team from Dr. Bernard Brosseau School.

BONNYVILLE – Last Thursday, junior high volleyball teams from the Bonnyville area took part in Lakeland Schools Athletic Association’s (LSAA) Central Ward tournament.

H.E. Bourgoin Middle School (HEB) hosted the volleyball tournament for the boys' teams, while the girls' teams headed to Dr. Bernard Brosseau School to compete in Wards.

Taking to the courts at HEB were teams from five Bonnyville area schools. Showing up to compete were the Iron River Dragons, Dr. Brosseau Bobcats, H.E. Bourgoin Bears, École des Beaux-Lacs Attaque and the Ardmore Timberwolves.

Iron River and Ardmore both entered the Central Ward tournament with coed teams as the schools do not have enough players to field a separate boys and girls team, explained Dustin Blake, the principal for Iron River.

Taking first place in the boys' category was the Iron River Dragons. The Bobcats earned second place, while the HEB team nabbed third place.

Dr. Brosseau’s girls team walked away from Wards with a first-place Central Ward plaque. Beaux-Lacs girls swiped second place, while the HEB Bears placed third in the tournament.

On Nov. 26, LSAA’s three Wards will come together to compete in the District Volleyball Championships for Grades 7-9 at two Bonnyville locations.

Bonnyville Centralized High School will host the boys District tournament and École des Beaux-Lacs will host the girls.
