Brews for Books raises funds for library

The Brews for Books 5km Beer Run took place on Aug. 28.
Some of the participants in the run decided to go all out in costumes.

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Municipal Library tried a new approach to fundraising this year, hosting the first ever Brews for Books 5km Beer Run.

The event took place on Aug. 28, with people starting and finishing the 5km run at Lakeland Brewing Company, in St. Paul. The fundraiser gathered about $700 for the library, and 22 runners took part.

"It was a great fundraiser," said library programmer Monique Poulin.

The fundraiser was put on by the St. Paul Municipal Library, Lakeland Brewing Company and the Iron Horse Ultra 100.

Race weekend for the ultra marathon will be Oct. 1 to 3. The Iron Horse Ultra challenges runners to complete a 100 km or 100 mile race across a large portion of the County of St. Paul, either solo or in a team. The race is part of the Alberta Ultra Series.
