COLD LAKE – City of Cold Lake council passed a motion to provide a letter of support to the Cold Lake Agricultural Society as part of an application to the provincial Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP), at council’s special meeting on July 15.

The request aims to help the Agricultural Society replace weathered wood planks on the grandstand bleachers with aluminum alternatives.

The project, while relatively straightforward, still required some clarification from City administration before council moved forward.

CAO Kevin Nagoya confirmed that no engineering approvals are needed because the structure itself will not be altered, only the surface materials.

“You're seeing the wear, and they are weathering,” he said. The ag society is “Looking to replace the wood with sort of like an aluminum type platforms.”

Council approved providing a letter of support for the project.

A dollar amount regarding the potential cost of the project was not available as of the original publication of this story.
