Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta chief medical officer of health, gives a daily update on COVID-19.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 119 Albertans are confirmed to have COVID-19

Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said in her daily press conference on Wednesday that is an increase of 22 cases since the Tuesday update.

There is currently at least one case of COVID-19 in every health zone in the province.

“We suspect that six of these cases are community transmission,” Hinshaw said, meaning the people affected did not get the virus by travelling.

Of the 119 cases, six are in the hospital and three are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Two had been in the ICU earlier this week and one was admitted yesterday.

Hinshaw said the online COVID-19 health assessment tool has been accessed 1.3 million times and the province has done 15,000 tests for coronavirus.

“Per capita, we are testing more than any jurisdiction in North America,” Hinshaw said.

Hinshaw said they have done one test for every 290 Albertans.

Hinshaw said that there have been multiple cases from the Pacific Dental Conference held in Vancouver from March 5 to 7, and more cases continue to identified.

Hinshaw asks that all individuals who have attended the conference to self isolate immediately even if feeling well until March 22.
