MONDAY UPDATE: RCMP say missing man has been located safe and sound in Edmonton
In a short news release issued on Sunday, Lac La Biche RCMP say James Dominique has been located in Edmonton. Police believed the local man who uses a wheelchair for mobility may have received a ride to the Edmonton area a week ago. Dominique had been reported missing on Sunday, June 13. Several witnesses saw the man along the Mission Road near Nasim Drive.
Police are thanking the media and the community for helping to locate Dominique.
UPDATE: Missing man and his wheelchair could be in Edmonton
A Lac La Biche man who has not returned to his temporary home at a local shelter since Saturday could now be in the Edmonton area, say Lac La Biche RCMP.
James Terry Dominique, 37, uses a wheelchair for mobility and was last seen alongside the Mission Road near the Lac La Biche airport last Saturday afternoon.
RCMP report that several witnesses saw a person matching Dominique's description that day, apparently collecting bottles from alog the roadside. One caller said they gave a man matching his description a ride to Grassland. Police says their investigation leads them to believe that same person was then given a ride to the Edmonton area.
Going into the weekend, the missing person file was still active as Dominique had not reported his whereabouts to police.
Background — Lac La Biche RCMP are continuing to search for a Lac La Biche man who uses a wheelchair for mobility. James Terry Dominique, 37, was last seen on the weekend near the Lac La Biche airport property on the Mission Road.
Police say they received a call on the afternoon of Sunday, June 13 that Dominique had not returned to his temporary residence in Lac La Biche, and he had not been seen since the day before.
On Saturday, June 12, a man in a wheelchair was seen by residents along the Mission Road area near Nashim Drive. Some reports say the man was at times out of the wheelchair, moving slowly through the ditches alongside the road.
"Lac La Biche RCMP are concerned for James’ wellbeing and would like to speak to him to confirm his wellbeing," says RCMP spokesperson Corp. Deanna Fontaine. "It is out of character for him not return to his residence."
James Terry Dominique is described as being five-feet, seven-inches tall.
He weighs 160 lbs and has brown hair and hazel eyes.
The Indigenous man also has a moustache and goatee.
Dominique was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a blue and orange Edmonton Oilers baseball hat, and a dark coloured sweater.
