ORIGINAL STORY:

COLD LAKE - An incident that involved a marked police car being rammed, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle, has resulted in two suspects being arrested.

On Sept. 21, at about 7:50 p.m., Cold Lake RCMP responded to several calls about a vehicle that was driving into on coming traffic on Highway 28.

"Police located the vehicle and it fled on Highway 28 in Cold Lake running several red lights," according to RCMP. "A pursuit was initiated, which went into Cold Lake First Nation and then back into the city of Cold Lake."

RCMP tried to stop the vehicle with a tire deflation device, but it was unsuccessful. Due to safety concerns the pursuit was stopped.

At about 9:30 p.m., an RCMP Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit officer, with assistance from RCMP Air Services and RCMP Police Dog Services, located the suspect vehicle parked near a residence on 47th Avenue.

"The vehicle fled from police and rammed a marked police car. The officer was not injured," according to RCMP.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near 54 Avenue and 51 Street. Further investigation led officers to a residence on Cold Lake First Nation where two suspects were arrested.

A stolen vehicle and flat deck trailer were also recovered at the residence, reported to be stolen from Smoky Lake. The suspects remain in police custody awaiting judicial hearings.

RCMP said an update will be provided once it is available.
