NOTICE LIFTED: MD of Bonnyville residents in Wildfire Standby Evacuation Zone told to prepare

UPDATE: The fire on Cold Lake First Nations has been contained, according to information released Thursday evening. Crews are on scene working to extinguish hot spots through the night. 

BONNYVILLE - Some MD of Bonnyville residents have been put on standby as a wildfire burns in the area.

While some areas of Cold Lake First Nations have been evacuated, residents nearby in the MD of Bonnyville in the Wildfire Standby Evacuation Zone should be ready to evacuate within the next two to 24 hours. 

"The Wildfire Standby Evacuation Zone applies to anyone south of Township Road 614, west of Highway 897, and for one kilometre south of Hwy 897 to Range Road 434 and north to Twp Rd 614," according to information from the MD of Bonnyville.

"Evacuation is not necessary at this time, but preparations should be made now."
