LAKELAND – The Lakeland hosted a large lacrosse tournament over the Mother's Day weekend, drawing teams in from across the region - and beyond.

Two Lakeland Heat teams kicked off the day’s Ice Melter Lacrosse Legacy tournament in Bonnyville on May 10, when the U9-2 and U9-3 teams battled it out.

The game was held at the Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre (C2 Cenovus arena), and Lakeland Heat U9-2 coach Eric Gaulin said it was a great game.

The kids hustled through the fast-paced game as parents and coaches hollered and cheered them on.

Gaulin, a father of two players as well as a coach, is a big advocate of team sports.

“[They’re] so important in the development of young kids. I’m a huge believer kids who go through any team sport will succeed well in life, as they will have the understanding of working as a team.”

The tournament continued throughout the weekend and included 39 teams, with games being played in Glendon, Bonnyville and Cold Lake.
