Car show put on for a cause

LAC LA BICHE - The Perfect Gift store held its first show and shine car show in the parking lot of Vera M. Walsh Elementary School on Aug. 14 - an event that organizers hope will become an annual tradition.

The show had over 20 vehicles come show off – both old and new. Prizes were given out to those who entered their cars, as well. Food vendors were parked close by so guests could eat or drink something cold and admire all the interesting looking cars close by.

Gerald Cardinal, an organizer, was excited for the event.

“It was a good cause for The Perfect Gift store. I think it's really a good cause. I've been to a lot of car shows and they're good neighbours, good friends. So, I thought I'd give them a hand by helping them out,” said Cardinal. “Car shows are a lot of fun, and bring out a lot of people from the town – and we get to see everybody's cars.”

Events like these are slowly starting up as public health measures have been eased, and planning on short notice is taking place in a lot of cases.

“We threw this together with just a couple of weeks... a lot of volunteers came together. Actually, I was pretty surprised we had a good turnout for the first year,” said Cardinal

Organizers are planning on hosting another car show next year around the same time, and are hoping to draw in more cars and a larger crowd. Funds raised at the event are put toward The Perfect Gift store, which helps support local families who may not be able to afford gifts for their children at Christmas.
