Telus working on digital outage through Lac La Biche area

TELUS is working to restore both wireless and wireline services to the community of Lac La Biche and the surrounding area after a disruption was caused by a third party doing construction work earlier today.

"TELUS crews were dispatched as soon as we were alerted to the outage and are currently onsite addressing the situation to restore service," Telus media spokesperson Douglas Self told the POST just before suppertime today.

The outage was first noticed by area internet users before 10 am.

Self says there's no timeframe for the repairs

"At this time, we are not able to estimate when services will be fully restored, but are doing everything we can to get the area reconnected as soon as possible," he said.

The POST has learned through the course of the day that a fibre cable was cut just east of Atmore as another internet service provider in the area was doing trenching work.  Almost 1,000 Lac La Biche Telus customers have been affected by contrctor's error.

"Further updates will be provided as they become available," said Self. "TELUS thanks its customers for their patience and understanding."
