Haying in the 30's matches last year's success

Haying in the 30’s saw another successful event. Over $200,000 was once again raised over the course of two days.

While it's only been a couple of days since Haying in the 30's wrapped up its 20th annual event in Mallaig, it appears that despite some unruly weather Saturday morning, attendance and funds raised will match last year's.

According to president Martin Naundorf, about $210,000 was raised over the two-day event. The non-profit organization keeps donations open for two weeks, following the event. Last year, about $260,000 was raised over the same time period, and current numbers appear to be on track.

The organization raises about half a million dollars through an entire calendar year, with all funds going directly to supporting people undergoing cancer treatments.

Naundorf also noted there were more campers on site for the August long weekend, but overall attendance was about the same as last year - and is pegged at about 4,500 people.

"Overall, we're pretty impressed," says Naundorf.

The weekend also included a few special moments, held in honour of the event's founder Edgar Corbiere, who passed away this spring.
