Municipal election 2021: MD of Bonnyville unofficial results

The MD residents vote in new reeve and two new councillors, according to unofficial results released by the MD of Bonnyville.

BONNYVILLE – Unofficial results from all voting stations suggest that ratepayers want the MD of Bonnyville council to head in a different direction.  

Votes tallied from all voting stations, including special ballots and advance polls from across the MD, have shown Barry Kalinski has won the race for reeve by a margin of 351 votes in the 2021 municipal election. 

Kalinski received 2,227 votes, whereas reeve incumbent Greg Sawchuk, received 1,876. 

The unofficial results from Monday’s vote have four incumbent councillors returning to their seats on the MD of Bonnyville council, including Darcy Skarsen in Ward 2, Mike Krywiak in Ward 3, Dana Swigart in Ward 5 and Ben Fadeyiw in Ward 6.  

Likely to be sworn in as the next reeve and councillors of the MD of Bonnyville are Barry Kalinski as reeve, Josh Crick, Darcy Skarsen, Mike Krywiak, Don Slipchuk, Dana Swigart and Ben Fadeyiw.

Counts have shown that Josh Crick will be the new councillor for Ward 1, beating out incumbent Marc Jubinville.  

In total, 732 ratepayers cast votes in the riding. Crick received 398 votes. The former Ward 1 Coun. Jubinville, received 246, and Louise White received 88.  

Results in Ward 2 saw incumbent Coun. Skarsen come out with 435 votes. Followed by David Fox with 259 votes and Kurt Richard closely behind with 255. 

By a narrow margin of six votes, Ward 3 incumbent Coun. Krywiak will likely return to council. Lawrence Makaruk received 270 votes, whereas Krywiak 276.  

In Ward 4, another new face will take the role of councillor. Running against three other candidates, Don Slipchuk garnished the majority of votes. 

Slipchuk was selected on 324 ballots, incumbent Coun. Edward Duchesne received 310 votes, and Marvin Tkachuk received 51. 

In Ward 5, Swigart received the majority of votes with 233. Coming in behind him, Andy Wakaruk received 188 votes, Angela Cook garnished 109, Monika Iverson received 91, Roy Dell had 35, and Erwin Thompson received 20 votes. 

Ward 6 was closely contested. Incumbent Coun. Fadeyiw came out with 338 votes and 36 votes behind was Diane Jenkinson with 302.
