LAKELAND – The unofficial results of Northern Lights Public School (NLPS) was released shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

For the board of trustees' election, only residents in Ward 1 (Bonnyville and area), Ward 3 (Lac La Biche) and Ward 4 (Lac La Biche-Plamondon) cast a ballot on Monday.

Board trustees from Ward 2 and 5 had been elected through acclamation following nomination day.

The board trustees for Ward 2 covering the area of Cold Lake are incumbents, Karen Packard, Mandi Skogen and Ron Young.

In Ward 5, Lac La Biche South, is trustee incumbent Debra Lozinski.

Out of six candidates running in Ward 1, the trustees with the most votes in the 2021 election were Cheryl Edwards, incumbent Garry Kissel and Roy Ripkens.

Not returning to their positions on the NLPS board are Lorne Kaban and board vice-chair person Michael Topylki. Also not gaining a spot on the board is Chad Colbourne.

Lois Philips will be the next school board trustee for NLPS in Ward 3 (Lac La Biche). Ward 3 was the one Ward to have a three-day extension to the nomination date due to the fact that no one put their name forward by the Sept. 20 deadline.

In Ward 4, Blair Norton won a seat on the board after gaining the most votes. Running against Norton was two other candidates, Stephanida Gostevskyh and Sandra Makokis.

Blair Norton is also replacing outgoing Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk, who had served six terms as the NLPS trustee for Ward 4.

The NLPS Board's first organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
