Six candidates running for three spots on Glendon council

‘There are no advanced voting opportunities,’ says CAO.

GLENDON – In the village of Glendon, residents will select three out of the six candidates running in the municipal election on Oct. 18.  

Since nominations closed on Sept. 20 at noon, the Returning Officer has completed the filing of the official results on the Elections Database, said Melody Kwiatkowski, CAO for the Village of Glendon.    

The official list of candidates that will appear on Glendon’s 2021 municipal election ballot are Roger Belknap, Lorie Czuroski, Dallas Fewchuk, Daryn Galatiuk, Tanya Krywiak and Nicholas Werstiuk. 

Of the six candidates running upcoming election, two are returning councillors. Nicholas Werstiuk, Glendon’s current deputy mayor, will run again in hopes of returning to his seat on council. Coun. Roger Belknap is also seeking re-election.

Glendon’s mayor Laura Papirny will not be seeking re-election.   

Following the election, the newly elected councillors will vote on who will be appointed to the role of mayor and deputy mayor at the first council meeting post-election.  

Extra ballot questions

Included on Glendon's municipal ballot will be two referendum question and the option to select three senate nominees. 

The referendum questions residents will be asked to answer when they head to the polls are: 

“Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?”  

“Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?” 

No advanced voting 

Glendon residents will have to vote on Oct. 18 if they want to cast a ballot for their municipal election. 

According to Kwiatkowski, there will be no advanced voting opportunities organized by the Village’s administration for the upcoming election.  

Currently, no location has been selected for the polling station.
