ST. PAUL - It was a battle for the top spot in the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (NEAJBHL) on Saturday night and after three periods of play, the battle continued into overtime.
The visiting team was the first to get on the scoreboard, with a goal by the Bisons' Drake Rennie in the first period.
Seven minutes into the second period, the Canadiens would tie the game with a goal by Nicolas Beaudoin, assisted by Janson Pashniak and William Chemago. But, the Bisons would take the lead again before the period was over, with a goal by Dylan Eremko.
The intensity of the game would push through into the third period, and the Canadiens would tie the game back up thanks to a goal from Chemago, assisted by Louis-David Fournier and Noah Balmer.
While both teams would take at least one point away from the battle, just 29 seconds into overtime the Bisons' Ryder Kenyon would get the game winner.
The Canadiens would take top spot following the Nov. 6 game at the Clancy Richard Arena, despite the loss, due to having one game in hand over the Bisons. The Canadiens' season record sits at eight wins, two losses, and one overtime loss, while the Bisons had a similar record, with eight wins and two losses.
The Bisons, however, took on the Lloydminster Bandits in Lloydminster on Sunday evening, while the Canadiens had the night off.
With a 7-4 win on Sunday against the Bandits, the Bisons have regained the top spot in the league, sitting just one point ahead of the Canadiens.
