BONNYVILLE – Over the weekend, École Notre Dame's senior volleyball teams crushed their competitors at the 2A Northeast Zone Championships.

Both the senior girls and boys team took home first place banners and will be heading to Provincials next weekend.

The girls team travelled to Vegreville Composite High and finished the tournament accomplishing a perfect 3-0 streak in pool play defeating Assumption Jr/Sr High, Bonnyville Centralized High School and FG Miller.

In semifinals the Wildcats defeated Lamont High in straight sets, before heading into the final against the hosting team, the Vegreville Composite Cougars.

The Notre Dame girls went on to win the Zone final in another straight set match.

For the upcoming weekend, the Wildcats will head to Claresholm to compete for the 2A provincial title.

Also competing in Zones was Notre Dame’s boys, who hosted the 2A Zone tournament last weekend.

The Notre Dame boys team finished regular pool play 4-1, having lost only one game against Two Hills.

The Wildcats went on to beat FG Miller in straight sets during semifinals.

Coming up against the boys from Two Hills once again, the Notre Dame team was able to avenge their earlier loss in a closely contested match for the northeastern 2A Zone banner.

The Notre Dame boys team, as well as the second-place finisher Two Hills, will be heading to Black Diamond this weekend to compete in Provincials.
