The Bold Center Sports Fields in Lac La Biche were busy over the weekend with the Lac La Biche FC-hosted soccer fest.

It was a hot day for Saturday's Soccer Fest hosted by Lac La Biche FC. Here some Bonnyville U9 players get a cool-down after during their game. New Lakeland District Soccer Association guidelines for safety in the summer sun call for additional stoppages in play at the midway points of each half when temperatures hit 30C for players to get hydrated.
There was a little bit of shade under the soccer Saturday sun. Teams from across the Lakeland played on the artificial turf, as well as the grass pitches at the Bold Center Sports Fields. The large recreation area could accommodate up to eight games at a time during the busy soccer weekend.

LAC LA BICHE - It was a busy weekend of soccer as the Lac La Biche Football Club hosted the annual Soccer Fest.

On Friday night, teams of U14 to U18 players from across the Lakeland played in twilight games at the Bold Center fields, leading to a long day in the sun on Saturday as youngsters in the U7 to U11 categories played games against each other in a festival-style play where coaches were encouraged to teach as the games rolled along. 

Saturday also saw teams in the U13 category from across the Lakeland play in a tournament. 

In all Lac La Biche FC estimate they hosted more than two dozen teams over the weekend.

The tournament games are part of the Lakeland District Soccer Association season.  A full listing of the upcoming minor soccer schedule for U13 to U19 teams in the Lakeland can be found at the association's website. The next tournament event for Lakeland teams is a double-header with Vermilion and St. Paul hosting mini tournaments for younger players on the May 27 weekend.
