Portage Voyageurs lose season's last home game

The last home game of the season for the Porteage College Voyageurs couldn't break the team's winless streak.  The Voyageurs lost Friday night's game to the Augustana Vikings 7-1 in front of a small crowd at the Bold Center.  The game also saw the Voyageurs lose forward Cole Keenleyside for the Saturday's rematch in Camrose for his secnd period deliberate hit on a Viking player, earning him a major five minute penalty for an intentional hit to the head plus a game misconduct.

The five minute power play netted the Vikings two goals, added to their long opening period goal. By the end of the second period, the Vikings had scored two more, going into the third period with a 5-0 lead. The VIkings scored two more in the final period — but had their shutout ruined with just one minute and  52 seconds left in the game when Voyageurs' Shane Sherban scored Portage's only goal of the night.

Saturday's game starts at 6 pm in Camrose at the Encana Centre.  The Vikings are currenlty in fifth place of the eight-team Alberta College's Athletics Conference and have secured a spot in the playoff round. The Voyageur and the Briercrest team finished the season out of the playoff race.
