St. Paul Athletics Association runners compete under the hot sun

ST. PAUL - It felt much more like a hot summer day than a cool fall day, but athletes at this year's St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) cross country running championship event made the best of it and took to the trails, vying for this year's SPAA banners.

St. Paul Regional High School would claim both the boys' and girls' banners for the senior high schools. This year's high school races were run slightly different, with all Grade 10, 11 and 12 students running together in two separate races - one for the boys and one for the girls. Points were tallied using the top five runners from each participating school to determine the banner winners.

On the junior high side, it was a close race between the Glen Avon School girls and the Racette Jr. High School girls, with the Racette girls taking the banner by just two points. On the boys' side, Racette would also claim the Jr. SPAA banner.

High school students will head to Vermilion this week to take part in Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) zones, set for Oct. 6.
