LAC LA BICHE - The Kings University (TKU) Eagles women's soccer squad came from one goal down to beat the Portage College Voyageurs 2-1 in Saturday afternoon action on the new Bold Center turf.

The Voyageurs held a 1-0 hold until the 15-minute mark of the second half when an Eagles striker chipped a high one over Voyageur goalie Sydney Kushnerik. The Eagles' go-ahead goal came with five minute left in the game on a blast from inside the 18-yard box that gave the Portage keeper little chance.

The loss is the fifth-straight for the Voyageurs girls' team.

The 2-1 loss was watched by a good crowd of Voyageur fans in the stands at the newly constructed fields. The two previous home games saw the girls lose 8-0 and 11-1 in front of home fans.

The next game for the Portage women is Oct. 2 in Edmonton against Concordia. Their next home game is Sunday, Oct. 3 on the Bold Center sports field. That game starts at noon.

The Voyageurs men's team also played their TKU opponents, also on the Bold Center field, also on Saturday, and also losing by a 2-1 score.

With all three goals of the game coming in the first half — the Portage strike coming from defender James Ruhiga — the Voyageurs couldn't find an equalizer in the final 45 minutes of the game.

The loss is the third straight for the men's team, after starting the season in late August with back-to-back wins and a tie.

The men's next opponent is also Concordia on Oct. 2 in Edmonton. Their next home game is against Keyano College on Oct. 3. The men's game in the men's and women's soccer day, starts at 2 p.m.
