Basketball season underway

In my time as the sports reporter with the Nouvelle I've been privileged to be able to cover many of my favourite sports. I have also been lucky enough to cover several sports I was not so familiar with before arriving in Bonnyville.

One sport that falls somewhere in between being a favourite sport and a sport I am admittedly unfamiliar with is basketball.

In my entire life experience with sports, I have played a total of half a season of organized basketball – in Grade 6. However, I have been watching basketball on TV, both pro and college since I can remember.

Furthermore, I had the typical driveway hoop and an NCAA basketball video game for my Playstation, which have all added what basketball skills and knowledge they possibly could.

Now though, with no chance of ever playing competitive basketball I can turn my focus to learning much more about the game, and increasing my knowledge and interest.

This is why I am very much looking forward to covering the local basketball scene, which is currently underway in the Lakeland area.

Both junior and senior high basketball seasons have tipped off over the past few weeks and I plan to be at as many games as I can get to.

With many of the players still grasping the game themselves, the learning, but still, competitive atmosphere, should be a perfect place for someone like me to continue to gain a greater appreciation for a great game.
