ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Education board of trustees has voted to continue to have Sylvie Smyl as the board chair, and Darcy Younghans as the vice-chair, heading into the 2023/24 school year.

An organizational meeting was held on Aug. 30, where the board of trustees went over a list of committee appointments. The majority of appointments remained the same.

FNMI Trustee Melvin Abraham was appointed to the FNMI Liason Committee, replacing Smyl. Abraham was appointed to his role in November of 2022, which was after the 2022 organizational meeting.

Smyl did recommend adding a "Heath and Wellness" committee, "since it's one of our priorities."

While fellow board members were in favour of the addition, administration noted that work was being done in this regard at the administrative level with the creation of a Division Health and Wellness Committee, with Assistant Superintendent Karol Cabaj-Martin taking the lead. Trustee Jan Rajoo put her name forward to be a trustee representative with that committee.

The board also reviewed its remuneration.

While some discussions did take place around mileage, Younghans suggested keeping things as they are. The board agreed, and no changes were made to remuneration.

Regular board meetings will continue to take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in St. Paul. Meetings will also continue to be livestreamed on YouTube.
