AIRDRIE - The Airdrie Pro Rodeo is set to captivate rodeo enthusiasts and spectators during the annual event on June 30 and July 1.

Dating back to 1967, the rodeo committee organized the first Canada Day parade in Airdrie.

This year, the Junior Rodeo will kick off at 6 p.m. on June 30, followed by the Pro Rodeo at 7 p.m. On July 1, the Junior Rodeo starts at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Pro Rodeo at 3:30 p.m.

According to the Airdrie Pro Rodeo's website, the long-standing celebration of Airdrie's western roots draws roughly 10,000 volunteers, spectators, and athletes annually. The event is organized by the Airdrie Rodeo Ranch Association, a volunteer-driven group committed to preserving rural roots and promoting the community.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo, strategically scheduled before the Calgary Stampede, attracts top rodeo stars who use it as a warm-up for the ensuing Stampede. On the other hand, the Junior Rodeo will feature mutton bustin', sheep and calf scrambles, and barrel racing alongside professional cowboys and cowgirls.

The senior rodeo will showcase 10 events, including novice bareback, steer wrestling, ladies barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding.

In addition to the main attractions, the event has something for everyone. Families can enjoy a variety of kids' activities, including face-painting, a playground, and a mini chuck wagon.

Attendees will also have the chance to indulge in delectable treats from an array of food trucks stationed on-site.

For convenience, a free shuttle service every 30 minutes, transporting visitors from Superstore in Airdrie to the rodeo grounds west of the city limits. Additionally, camping facilities are available on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring a memorable experience for those who wish to immerse themselves fully in the two-day event.
