Crews battle grass fire south of Okotoks

Despite windy and dry conditions, fire under control after quick response.

Firefighters were called to a grass fire south of Okotoks Saturday afternoon.

The call came in around 1:25 p.m. August 6 of a grass fire in a field just off Highway 783.

When fire crews arrived they found the flames had already consumed at least two acres and were continuing to spread.

Resources from Okotoks and High River Fire Departments — as well as a few neighbours — responded and had the fire quickly in hand.

"When we arrived it was moving to the northwest," said Travis Wray, acting fire captain with Okotoks Fire and Rescue, during an interview at the scene.

"We were able to get on it fairly quickly, get a knockdown, and we had the major flames out within 20 minutes, so now we're just hitting hot spots."

The fire consumed approximately ten acres, but no one was injured and no structures were threatened.

There has been no indication of cause at this time.
