INNISFAIL, Alta – RCMP have charged an Elnora man with four serious Criminal Code charges following a deadly highway crash that killed two young adults.

RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said in a news release that at about 10 p.m. on June 17 there was a serious multi-vehicle collision north of Trochu on Highway 21, just over 65 kilometres northeast of Olds.

Slaney said the RCMP investigation revealed two cars were northbound on Highway 21 when the second vehicle rear-ended the first, causing it to drive across the road where it was hit by an oncoming semi-truck.

She said the two occupants of the first car, a 20-year-old female and a 21-year-old male, were declared deceased at the scene.

As a result of the crash, Slaney said Three Hills RCMP have charged Richard Douglas Bell, 42, of Elnora with the following offences:

·       Two counts of dangerous operation causing death
·       Two counts of impaired operation causing death
·       Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
·       Refusal to provide sample

Bell has been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Drumheller provincial court on June 24.
