A fire ban and off-highway vehicle restriction are in place for the MD of Bonnyville.

Effective as of 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) have issued a full fire ban for the area.

The ban applies to parks and recreational areas, however doesn't apply to cities, towns, villages, summer villages, or federal lands within the municipality.

An off-highway vehicle restriction has also been issued for the MD, following the provincial ban put in place for the Lac La Biche Forested Areas, which includes the northern half of the MD.

For the safety of the public, the BRFA have expanded the off-highway vehicle restriction to cover the entire MD area.

All open fires, including campfires in campgrounds, backcountry, and random camping areas, including backyard fire pits are prohibited.

Charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers, and tiki torches, as well as fireworks and exploding targets, are also banned.

Use of portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, catalytic or infrared-style heaters, and fires contained in industrial facilities or on industrial sites as approved by a forest officer, are permitted.

The fire ban and OHV restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.
