Habitat for Humanity's Cold Lake project is expected to be open in a just a few months, with a eager family ready to move in.

"Probably by summertime is when we're looking," said Laszlo Bajzar, the Northern Alberta Development coordinator for Habitat for Humanity.

He added that the builders just finished with the plumbing and are about ready to start pouring the concrete for the floor slabs in the basement.

"As soon as that is in they will get the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and electrical in. Then we will start to do the drywall. Right now our volunteers are doing exterior siding and as soon as the HVAC and electrical are done then they will do the inside boarding," said Bajzar.

The Habitat for Humanity has also decided on the local family who will move into the home after it is built. While he won't give out names, Bajzar said that family is now in the process of finishing all the paper work and procedures needed to be fully accepted for this opportunity.

"They're so enthusiastic it's unbelievable."

This project began back in June when the Lakeland Catholic School District donated $40,000 towards the build.

That money was raised by the students of LCSD as a part of there the Social Justice Project: Sowing Seeds of Justice.

The single family home is being built on 54 Ave. in Cold Lake.

The build is completed by a group of volunteers from the community, and Habitat for Humanity encourages anyone who is interested in volunteering to come out and help.

"We have some major core people who are coming out but we are always looking for volunteers," added Bajzar. "It's always a good time to come out and you will usually have a good time."
