MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The death of a 24-year-old Red Deer man found on an oil lease road southeast of Didsbury near Highway 2 on Monday has been ruled a homicide, police said Wednesday.

The body of Alhaji Fofanah was discovered by a local hunter on Township Road 310 near Range Road 10A in Mountain View County on Sept. 12, police said today.

Didsbury RCMP were dispatched to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. where the victim was found deceased.

On Sept. 14 an autopsy was completed by the Calgary office of the Chief Medical Examiner and confirmed the death to be a homicide.

Asked if there is any indication that Fofanah died at the location where his body was found, RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney told the Albertan, “That’s part of the investigation that I can’t disclose.”

Police are not releasing the cause of death or saying whether a firearm was involved, she said.

“The person who found him was scoping out a hunting excursion,” she said.

Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area of Twp. Rd. 310 and Rge. Rd. 10A on the evening of Sept. 12 or knows anything about the death is being asked to contact Didsbury RCMP at 403-335-3381 or Crime Stoppers.
