Innisfail RCMP seize drugs, prohibited firearms in routine traffic stop

Suspects from Red Deer and Calgary face lengthy list of charges

INNISFAIL — Three suspects were arrested and charged by Innisfail RCMP over the weekend after officers discovered illicit drugs and prohibited firearms while conducting a routine traffic stop.

On Sunday, April 19 at approximately 7 p.m., police pulled over a vehicle just north of Innisfail, the RCMP reported in a press release dated Tuesday, April 21.  

Initiating an investigation, police proceeded to search the vehicle, subsequently arresting all three occupants.

During their search of the vehicle, officers recovered two prohibited firearms, one non-restricted firearm, as well as numerous edged weapons. Police also discovered quantities of substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, carfentanil and cannabis.  

Dale Coish, 24, from Red Deer, Jesse Fehr, 19, from Red Deer, as well as Ryan Traweger, 34, from Calgary, face a total of 31 charges which inlcude:

• three counts of trafficking controlled substance

• three counts of possession of prohibited weapon

• five counts of driving a motor vehicle with insecure weapons

• three counts of unsafe transportation of a firearm

• two counts of carrying a concealed weapon

• two counts of possession of loaded prohibited firearms

• three counts of possession of a stolen firearm

• possession of stolen property under $5,000

• two counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

• five counts of possession of firearm without a licence.    

Coish and Fehr were brought before a justice of the peace, who released them to appear in Red Deer provincial court on June 29.

In addition to the shared charges listed, Traweger was also charged with: two counts of breach of a release; obstruction; driving while unauthorized; driving without insurance; and driving without a licence.

He was remanded into custody, and was due to appear today in Red Deer provincial court.
