Do you know an outstanding volunteer in the community?

The Cold Lake and District FCSS is currently accepting nominations for their annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards.

This year's award categories are Rising Star-Youth Award, which is given to a volunteer under the age of 18, the Individual Community Impact and Group Community Impact awards, Coach of the Year, Newbie of the Year, Protector of the Environment, the Behind the Scenes award, and Lifetime Achievement.

The deadline to submit a nomination is March 1.

“We're looking for some fantastic volunteers,” explained Leanne Draper from the Cold Lake and District FCSS.

The Volunteer Appreciation Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 23 at the Lakeland Inn. Along with the award presentations, the evening will feature a performance from a 15-year-old classic rock cover artist.

“We're going to have a great meal, fantastic entertainment, we're going to have a fun photo booth, we always have great door prizes and a gift for every attendee, and of course the most important part is celebrating our local volunteers,” expressed Draper.

New to the program this year is the Lifetime Achievement Award. This honour will be handed out to a volunteer over the age of 55.

“It's for someone we've seen for years and years and years, who has spent countless years and hours volunteering for the community,” explained Draper.

Another new recognition for 2017 is the Community Impact Award, which recognizes a organization in the city that is making a difference.

“This one is a little different this year because we've got all these really great volunteer based groups here in Cold Lake doing amazing work and they should be recognized for their work,” said Draper.

To nominate an individual or group, you first need their permission. Then there are just a few steps before the process is complete.

“There are two ways (to nominate). You can come into the Cold Lake and District FCSS and we've got the nomination forms here,” said Draper. “Or even easier you can go onto the City of Cold Lake website and click the tab that says FCSS.”

On the forms, nominators have a chance to describe the impact an individual or group has had on the community through their volunteerism, and how long they've been contributing for.

Anyone wishing to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Awards ceremony can pick up a ticket after March 1. All nominees will receive two seats for the event.
